Beskrivning
This is one of those badges of which the meaning is rather unclear. What is certain is that the depiction is of two figures, one male and one female, in typical pilgrims garb, complete with staffs and scrip. Perhaps the intention is simply to convey the friendly companionship to be found on pilgrimage, in typical ‘Canterbury Tales’ fashion. Or maybe there is a more satirical theme, with the meaning lying in the undoubted opportunity for sexual ‘adventure’ to be found when far from home and in the company of strangers!
The original of this badge was found at the abandoned 15th century village of Walraversijde, near Ostend, Belgium.
